A Stuart eye doctor shot and killed his ex-wife at her home in Lake Worth on Tuesday, deputies say. They had been divorced for two months.
Richard Seith, 53, is now charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Cynthia Seith, 55, a Spirit flight attendant.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies had found her, dead from a gunshot wound, in the 4700 block of Lucerne Lakes Boulevard in Lake Worth on Tuesday, according to PBSO spokesperson Teri Barbera.
Deputies executed search warrants at Seith’s home in Jensen Beach and at his business in Stuart, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. On Friday night, officials with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals arrested him at his home.
Authorities did not provide a motive for the murder. Martin County Court records show that Cynthia Seith filed for divorce in 2024. The two finalized the divorce in May of this year.
Seith was also embroiled in a contentious divorce and custody case with his previous wife over the past 14 years, court records show. The former wife filed for divorce in 2011. The case continued into last year and remains active.
The eye doctor is also currently the respondent in a medical malpractice lawsuit in Martin County, records show. A man accused him of performing a procedure that left him with constant pain and distorted vision in his left eye.
