We’re back on the uphill climb of temperatures after a brief midweek break from the heat. As we head into the evening hours, temperatures are still expected to climb into the low 90s by Saturday evening. Heat index values will be elevated but not as extreme as what we’re expecting later in the week.
Tonight, we won’t see much relief from the heat, with overnight lows staying in the upper 70s. There’s a chance for some isolated, mild thunderstorms this evening. Buchanan County and much of the viewing area are under a Level 1 out of 5 risk, primarily for the potential of gusty winds and isolated pockets of heavy rain. Northwestern Missouri is under a Level 2 out of 5 risk as storms develop in Nebraska and move into the region.
Sunday will feel similar to Saturday. Rain chances persist in the morning as the overnight system clears out. After lunchtime, clouds and rain will move out, making way for more 90s and continued hot conditions. There’s a slight chance of rain again Sunday evening as another summer system could bring scattered showers.
Monday marks the beginning of our extreme heat week. Temperatures will start off in the mid-90s and climb to the upper 90s—and possibly even reach the triple digits—by Wednesday. An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for the entire viewing area from Monday afternoon through Thursday.
During this dangerously hot stretch, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting clothing, and check in on relatives, neighbors, and pets who may be sensitive to the heat.
Looking ahead to next weekend, temperatures remain hot, and conditions are expected to stay mostly dry.
