The demolition derby driver who was seriously injured following a crash at the Isanti County Fair on Thursday evening.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news that Josh Wines has passed away from the critical injuries he sustained during the Night of Destruction event at the Isanti County Fair,” reads an update on a GoFundMe campaign set up to support Wines’ family.

“Josh fought courageously in the hospital after being airlifted from the scene, but his injuries were ultimately too severe.”

Wines was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries following a collision during an event at the Isanti County Fair grandstand.

The grandstand was hosting “The Night of Destruction” on Thursday evening, which comprised a series of four events that included trailer races and a “backwards race.”

The GoFundMe page reveals that Wines recently got married, and was preparing to leave on a “long-awaited honeymoon” with his wife Kayla.

“Now, instead of celebrating their future, she is faced with unimaginable loss and the emotional and financial burdens that follow,” the fundraiser states.

Wines was an employee of Long Shot Trucking, based in Hugo, which has organized the fundraiser for Wines’ family.

“All donations will now go directly to Josh’s wife to help with medical bills already incurred, funeral costs, and support as she navigates life after this heartbreaking loss.”

A vigil was also held at the Isanti County Fair grandstand on Saturday evening.
