Wayland MA Police investigating assault on local homeowner, attempted burglary

Police in Wayland are investigating an incident in which a Joyce Road man was assaulted Friday night outside his home as part of an attempted burglary.

The man, who has not been named, was treated at a local hospital for what are believed to be minor injuries.

According to a press release from John Guilfoil Public Relations, Wayland Police Chief Ed Burman reports that at 9:43 p.m. on Friday, July 18, police received a phone call from a homeowner on Joyce Road.

Responding officers discovered the man suffering from facial wounds.

Police report that the man said he went outside after hearing a noise in his backyard. They said that according to the homeowner, he encountered two men dressed in dark clothing and armed with handguns.

Police said the men entered the home, demanding money and gold but were unsuccessful in obtaining anything. The suspects then fled through the front door.

Wayland Police believe this was an isolated incident, according to the press release. The department reminds residents to report any suspicious behavior to the Police Department.
