I was one of the protesters at the “Good Trouble Lives On” rally in Hartford on July 17.
The rally drew some unsavory counter protesters. One cigar smoking man thoroughly enjoyed blowing smoke in our faces. Their first appearance was in one of those souped up golf carts. The men screamed at us, then stalled in the middle of a busy intersection causing some unhappy drivers who yelled at them.
The vehicle finally regained power, the driver parked and the group walked over to us. The leader of the pack was the cigar smoker. His choice insult was to call the women there “grandmas.” There was mention of “grandpas.”
How pathetic that in our culture, where grandparents do so much for and with their grandchildren, we have people who find “grandma” the perfect insult.
