A 71-year-old Fort Myers man faces murder charges after a fight Saturday night at his home.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were responding about 10:40 p.m. to a domestic disturbance call in the 1100 block of Bermar Street when 911 operators received a call of a stabbing at the same address.

Deputies arrived and immediately started first aid for the victim, who had a stab wound to their chest. The sheriff’s office reported the person had died immediately.

Meanwhile, other deputies detained Alberto Arcia Lopez, walking toward the home and matching the description of the assailant.

Detectives said Arcia Lopez had a domestic relationship with the victim. The sheriff did not provide any details regarding the age, gender or residence of the victim.

A witness to the stabbing told detective that Arcia Lopez was arguing with the victim, with the witnes placing herself between the two. As the victim grabbed for the knife, Arcia Lopez reached over the witness and stabbed the victim once in the chest.

The witness said neither she nor the victim ever hit or touched Arcia Lopez.

The affidavit says the witness “told Alberto that he had killed the decedent, and Alberto fled the residence on foot, still armed with the knife …”

During the canvass, deputies found the knife in a thick patch of grass on a neighbor’s property.

While redacted, the affidavit reveals that Arcia Lopez told deputies that the victim had hit him in the head. Deputies saw no evidence, the affidavit reports.

Lopez faces second-degree murder charges, and he is lodged at Lee County Jail with bond not set Monday afternoon. He is due in court on May 12.
