Sep. 12—The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has awarded more than $2.5 million in recycling grants statewide, including funding for programs in Decatur and Lawrence County.
The grants are designed to boost recycling efforts.
The City of Decatur Recycling Facility will receive $375,000, one of the largest individual awards announced.
Lawrence County Solid Waste was also awarded $22,119.
ADEM Director Edward Poolos said the program continues to demonstrate its value across the state. “Every item that is recycled is one less item that ends up in a landfill or littered alongside our roads, on our land or in our water,” Poolos said in a statement.
The awards are part of the Alabama Recycling Fund, created by the Legislature in 2008, and were announced during the Alabama Recycling Coalition’s annual conference held this week in Huntsville. This year marks the 17th year of the program, which has funded projects for cities, counties, recycling centers, and solid waste authorities across Alabama
