A Clearfield County drug bust Friday yielded more than $80,000 worth of drugs and two African wildcats, state investigators said.
According to Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday, two people are charged with drug offenses and endangering the welfare of children related to the drug bust in Lawrence Township, located outside Clearfield Borough.
Sunday said officers seized three pounds of methamphetamine, approximately 159 grams of fentanyl and nine grams of heroin from the home. Approximately $7,390 in currency was also allegedly seized as evidence.
African wildcats, exotic cats slightly larger than domestic house cats, were found in the home’s basement, investigators said in a release.
“Our agents never know what they are going to find when they prepare for a search at a residence, and this case was no exception,” Sunday said. “The recovery and rescue of these wildcats provides the animals with opportunities to live safer, healthier lives – not caged in the basement of this home.”
Sunday said the animals were apparently unlawfully kept, with no evidence found that permits were acquired for them.
While criminal charges were filed related to the drug activity, the Pennsylvania Game Commission was investigating the animal issue as a separate matter, Sunday said.
