Afternoon storms in the mix for Central Florida on Sunday

Must read

Central Florida is in store for afternoon storms like normal with increasing humidity on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS in Melbourne says rain chances climb to 70% across the I-4 corridor by late afternoon with threat of frequent lightning and winds that could approach 50 mph.

Some areas could see another 2 inches of rain after days of drenching related to Tropical Storm Chantal that moved over the Carolina coast on Sunday morning. That could mean localized flooding.

“Activity is generally forecast to move offshore into the late evening and overnight hours, with mostly dry conditions anticipated through the overnight hours,” forecasters said.

While temperatures are near normal for July in the upper 80s and low 90s, the humidity will make heat indices climb to feels-like temperatures of 100-105.

“If spending extended periods of time outdoors, be sure to remain well hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade or an air conditioned building,” forecasters said. “Muggy conditions persist into the overnight hours, with lows in the low to mid 70s.”
