Akron activists plan meeting regarding Alterra Energy’s air permit renewal

Must read

People Over Polymers and Akron Community Action Network are hosting a meeting from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Zion Temple Baptist Church, 515 Ardella Ave., to discuss a plastic recycling facility.

East Akron residents will have a chance to air their concerns about the draft renewal of Alterra Energy’s air permit.

A previous hearing on the matter held by the Ohio Environmental Agency in downtown Akron drew over 100 people. All who spoke opposed the renewal of Alterra’s air permit.

“However, many people that are directly affected by this facility were not able to attend this event, since the OEPA held it in downtown Akron rather than in East Akron,” a news release from People Over Polymers said. “Because of this, People Over Polymers has joined efforts with Akron CAN, the Big Love Network, and other local organizations to host the East Akron People’s Hearing, where our neighbors will finally have a platform to tell their stories, share their concerns, and condemn the injustice in our city.”

Officials at the Waterloo Road facility have said the company is committed to safety.
