Alabama man charged with DUI manslaughter in fatal head-on collision in Escambia

An Alabama man was charged with DUI manslaughter after allegedly causing a fatal head-on collision in west Pensacola, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 1:34 a.m. May 9, Wyatt Cole Watson, 20, of Orange Beach, Alabama, was driving west on U.S. Highway 98 near Halcyon Circle. According to an FHP news release, Watson was driving in the wrong lane into oncoming traffic.

He reportedly collided head-on with truck driven by a 55-year-old man from Lillian, Alabama. The man died as a result of his injuries.

Watson was taken by Life Flight to a hospital with serious injuries.

The FHP opened a DUI investigation and subsequently arrested Watson for DUI manslaughter. He was transported to Escambia County Jail.
