Jul. 25—Alaska Revenue Commissioner Adam Crum is resigning, Gov. Mike Dunleavy said Friday. His resignation will take effect Aug. 8.
In a statement, Dunleavy said that Crum “successfully managed the state’s fiscal resources” as revenue commissioner.
Crum’s resignation comes as Alaska lawmakers have raised alarm over what they called a “pattern of obstruction” by the Department of Revenue. Legislators, including Senate President Gary Stevens and House Speaker Bryce Edgmon, have said the Department of Revenue’s unwillingness to cooperate with the legislative auditor may indicate that the state is not collecting hundreds of millions of dollars in potential oil and gas revenue.
Dunleavy in response has accused lawmakers of making “baseless and reckless insinuations.”
Asked if he was leaving the Dunleavy administration in order to run for office, Crum said in a text message that he had “accomplished a lot to put Alaska on sound economic footing.”
“I’ll have a formal statement on my last day, August 8th. Stay tuned,” Crum wrote.
Prior to serving as revenue commissioner, Crum served as commissioner of the state Department of Health and Social Services.
Dunleavy has not yet named an acting revenue commissioner.
