Appleton will not host a protest for the No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance, a nationwide demonstration to voice disapproval for the Trump administration’s planned multimillion-dollar military parade June 14.
According to the Democratic Party of Outagamie County, the decision was made to avoid conflicting with the annual Flag Day parade, which attracts over 50,000 spectators, according to the City of Appleton.
There are other options in northeastern Wisconsin for those who wish to join the protest. Here’s what to know:
Where else will protest take place on June 14?
A No Kings protest is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. at the Opera House Square, 315 N. Main St., in Oshkosh. Further north, one is set for 5 to 7 p.m., in Green Bay, meeting at Leicht Memorial Park.
There are other protests throughout the state of Wisconsin that can be found on the protests website, nokings.org.
What is the No Kings protest about?
The Nationwide Day of Defiance will coincide with a planned multimillion-dollar military parade in Washington, D.C., intended to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary with a display of thousands of soldiers, tanks and artillery.
It also coincides with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
Earlier this year, the “Hands Off!” protest on April 5 in downtown Appleton drew more than 2,000 people downtown.
