Architect Pat Segraves is returning to Palm Beach’s landmarks board after a two-year absence.
At its meeting Sept. 9 at Town Hall, the Town Council appointed the former four-term commissioner to fill the seat of regular member Anne Fairfax on the town’s Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Fairfax, also an architect, stepped down from the landmarks board in July with less than a year remaining in her second term. She is now serving as an alternate on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Segraves, a longtime Palm Beach resident, will occupy the seat until it expires in March 2026. He then would be eligible to seek two additional three-year terms.
“I think as a landmarks commissioner, I was always very fair and added constructive criticism to any applicants that were presenting,” he said during a presentation to council members. “I think I brought balance to the commission, and I would just like to say I would like to become a member again.”
After serving two terms on the landmarks board in the 2000s, Segraves was appointed again in 2017 for a three-year term and reappointed in 2020.
He is a former recipient of the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach’s Ballinger Award, which recognizes exemplary restoration or rehabilitation of a landmarked estate that upholds the architectural heritage of the town.
Segraves was one of eight applicants for the landmarks seat, including two who are sitting alternates.
After picking Segraves, council members encouraged those who were not selected to return when another opening occurred.
“This is a really impressive applicant pool, and it makes our decision really difficult,” council member Bridget Moran said. “Thank you to everybody. Please come back.”
The Landmarks Preservation Commission, chaired by Brittain Damgard, reviews exterior changes to the more than 350 landmarked buildings in town, and recommends additional buildings for landmark protection to the council each year.
