A vegetation fire near the Corning Skate Park on Toomes Avenue landed a woman in jail on July 13.

Corning police responded to a fire south of the Community Park and Skate Park on Toomes Avenue around 7:37 p.m., where the Corning Volunteer Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

Multiple witnesses described a female suspect as the person responsible for the fire, reported the Corning Police Department.

The suspect, Kodie Angela Trotta, 39, was later located by police under the bridge in the dry creek bed of Jewitt Creek at Blossom Avenue.

While Corning police attempted to detain Trotta, she allegedly started a fire in front of them in the dry creek bed.

Officers managed to put the fire out and place Trotta under arrest.

During the incident, one of the police officers suffered a laceration from a broken methamphetamine pipe, said the CPD.

Police said Trotta is believed to be responsible for two more fires ignited in the Corning area. Cal Fire is currently investigating those allegations.

Trotta was medically cleared and booked into the Tehama County Jail on $33,000 bail and suspicion of felony arson and resisting arrest.
