An Atlantic City police officer is accused of sexually assaulting a handcuffed woman in his patrol vehicle after removing her from a casino for alleged intoxication.
Officer Joshua Munyon, 24, denied to investigators that he had arrested the woman or put her in his vehicle, but video surveillance showed the woman entering and exiting the patrol car, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The incident allegedly occurred Sept. 13 when Munyon issued a summons to the woman for intoxication at the Tropicana casino-hotel, the prosecutor’s office said Friday.

It alleged that the uniformed police officer took the woman, identified only as A.L., to a parking lot in the city.
“While there, Officer Munyon sexually assaulted her,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Munyon returned the woman to the Tropicana, where she reported the alleged assault to the casino’s security staff. The security workers in turn alerted Atlantic City police, according to the statement.
It said location data from Munyon’s vehicle detailed his route of travel and corroborated statements from A.L.
In addition, the woman had injuries to her wrists due to allegedly being handcuffed during the assault. She also had “chipped toenails due to the position she was in when the assault occurred inside Officer Munyon’s patrol vehicle,” the prosecutor’s statement said.
The incident remains under investigation.
Munyon, who joined the police force in February 2023, was being held in Atlantic County Jail. The Egg Harbor Township man was charged with aggravated sexual assault sexual assault and official misconduct.
The charges are only allegations. Munyon has not been convicted in the case.
