Arkansas Tech University announced Thursday a $7 million investment to tackle deferred maintenance projects across its Russellville campus.
The announcement came during the ATU Board of Trustees’ Aug. 21 meeting at Chambers Cafeteria West Dining Room. Vice president for administration and finance Suzanne McCall said the funds will be used to renovate Baswell Techionery, Corley Hall, Norman Hall, Tucker Coliseum, and the second floor of Witherspoon Hall.
ATU President Dr. Russell Jones credited cost savings from the 2024-25 academic year for making the investment possible.
“Due to operating efficiencies at the university, Arkansas Tech is in a strong financial position and can reinvest in itself,” Jones said. “This investment of $7 million in savings will make a big difference in the future of Arkansas Tech.”
Longevity Pay Bonus
The board also approved a one-time longevity pay bonus for full-time faculty and staff. Eligible employees with 25 or more years of service will receive $1,500. Bonuses of $1,200, $1,000, and $800 will go to employees with 20–24 years, 15–19 years, and 10–14 years of service, respectively. The bonuses will be included in the September 2025 payroll.
Employees who have already received a career service bonus this fiscal year will remain eligible for the longevity pay.
Additional Actions
Approved an asbestos survey and demolition of a university-owned building at 513 West L Street.
Authorized the sale of a warehouse at 1105 E. 16th Street, with proceeds funding an addition to the on-campus warehouse near Facilities Management.
Awarded a renovation contract for Hughes Hall to Wagner General Contractors of Searcy, using $1.75 million in grant funds to prepare the building for the Division of Administration and Finance offices in fall 2026.
Established a provisional project coordinator role for the ATU Innovation Hub and Center for Community Engagement, part of an $8 million National Science Foundation grant.
Approved updates to the student handbook, equal opportunity and Title IX policies, and harassment and non-discrimination procedures.
Adopted a new officer wellness policy for the ATU Department of Public Safety.
Approved a provisional career and technical education specialist position at ATU-Ozark.
Granted the university president the authority to sign contracts for employee health, dental, and vision insurance services.
Set trustee meeting dates for Oct. 16, 2025; Dec. 18, 2025; Feb. 19, 2026; and May 21, 2026.
