An Auburn police officer was arrested at the station on Monday and faces charges related to buying sex with a child after an online sting operation in Berkshire County.
Dominick Boschetto, of Brookfield, an Auburn police officer for the past two years, has been charged with sexual conduct with a child under 18 that was paid for, and enticement of a child under 16, according to court filings.
Boschetto was arrested Monday by Massachusetts State Police officers, said Auburn Police Chief Todd Lemon. State police had notified Auburn police of its warrant for Boschetto’s arrest earlier that day.
Boschetto was immediately placed on administrative leave as per department policy, and Lemon began an internal investigation that will go alongside the criminal investigation, he said. The charges against Boschetto are not related to his on-duty actions, Lemon added.
Lemon called the accusations against Boschetto “reprehensible and deeply offensive to every member of the Auburn Police Department.”
“The residents of Auburn and the members of the Aubum Police Department deserve and demand that Aubum Police Officers are held to the highest standard,” Lemon’s statement read.
“We work hard every day to maintain the public’s trust and while this matter is extremely concerning, it is not a reflection of the hard working men and women of the Auburn Police Department as a whole,” he said.
