Augusta’s second armed standoff in three days involved a 26-year-old man who police say opened fire at the same Turpin Hill address three years ago.

Terrell Crawford surrendered peacefully Thursday afternoon in the 1400 block of Hunter Street, near Beulah Grove Baptist Church, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

An RCSO deputy about 12:40 p.m. spotted Crawford, who was wanted on several outstanding warrants. Crawford, spotting the deputy, fled into a nearby house.

The county’s SWAT team arrived about 1:40 p.m. as officers evacuated nearby homes and the Walton Green apartment complex. Negotiations through a vehicle loudspeaker coaxed Crawford outside, the RCSO said.

More charges could await Crawford, but before the standoff he was wanted on charges of felony theft by taking; first-degree burglary; criminal attempted carjacking; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime; and a probation violation for aggravated assault.

In 2024, the RCSO reported that it sought Crawford regarding an attempted Nov. 24 carjacking on the 1400 block of Hunter Street.

In August 2022, authorities arrived at the 1400 block of Hunter Street regarding a domestic dispute with shots fired. Witnesses said Crawford and other family members already had fled the residence.

Officers arrested Crawford about two weeks later after a standoff at the River Creek apartment complex on Center West Parkway.
