Augusta Springs man facing rape charge

Must read

An Augusta Springs man who is facing a rape charge is scheduled to appear in court next week, records show.

Erik S. Corbin, 27, is accused of raping a woman earlier this year.

According to an affidavit for a search warrant, on Feb. 3, deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Augusta Springs for a reported rape, where a woman told deputies that a person under her care had just reported she’d been sexually assaulted.

In an interview with the sheriff’s office later that month, the woman said Corbin contacted her caretaker on Feb. 3 and said he had some Virginia Tech clothing to pass along, the affidavit said. Corbin informed her that he was at a nearby home.

The woman went to the Augusta Springs home to pick up the clothing from Corbin. But once inside, she said Corbin asked for sex. When the woman tried to leave, she said she was held against a wall in the hallway of the home and raped by Corbin, the affidavit said.

The woman said she immediately fled the residence to her home and reported she’d been raped. After 911 was called, she was taken to Augusta Health in Fishersville for sexual assault forensic exam.

When questioned by the sheriff’s office in March, Corbin denied raping the woman and said “the sex was consensual,” according the affidavit.

When the caretaker was interviewed, she told authorities Corbin sent her texts after the alleged sexual assault, denying that a rape had taken place. In the affidavit, the sheriff’s office requested a search of Corbin’s phone, and said it could help pinpoint his location during the timeframe of the alleged assault.

Corbin was arrested April 3 on the rape charge and is being held at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona without bond, jail records show.

His first court appearance is set for June 5 in Augusta County General District Court.
