The Battle Creek Community Foundation is hosting its second annual Block Party from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, on Michigan Avenue in downtown Battle Creek.
The event is free and open to the public, according to an announcement from the foundation.
“It was so great to see people from all parts of our community connecting and having fun together last year,” Mary Muliett, BCCF CEO, said in the release. “We wanted to build on that impactful energy and host a second-annual block party to bring our community together once again.”
The outdoor event will include the foundation’s annual meeting, family-friendly activities, food from local eateries and live music.
According to Muliett, the best part of last year’s event was seeing people from every corner of the community interacting, talking and finding common ground.
As an example, she recalled a moment when Battle Creek Public Schools Superintendent Kimberly Carter was in conversation with a student. During the conversation, Carter learned the student had not been able to register for the new school year. Thanks to that connection, Carter reached out to the student’s parents and worked with the family to get the student placed in classes.
“This is the real importance of events like BCCF’s block party,” Muliett said. “Through connecting with our neighbors and friends and building true community, a community where we look out for each person calling Calhoun County home, great things can be accomplished.”
Last year, the foundation attracted generous donors who enabled the event to be free to all. It is currently inviting interested businesses, donors and community members to become sponsors for the second annual event. Interested parties can contact Lynn Ward Gray at lynn@bccfoundation.org.
