CATLETTSBURG An 18-year-old Boyd County student died in a single vehicle wreck Saturday night.
The driver of the vehicle was identified at Christopher “Howie” Wilks of Catlettsburg, according to a press release from the Boyd County Coroners office.
A preliminary investigate determined the vehicle was traveling on Friendship Road, near the intersection of Whites Creek Road, when it left the road and rolled several times before coming to a rest in a field. The vehicle caught fire during the accident.
Wilks was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office.
Wilks was preparing to start his senior year at Boyd County High School this week. The school will be open to provide services or counseling support.
The accident is under investigation by Kentucky State Police, the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office and the Boyd County Coroner’s Office.
