A boat explosion in western Wisconsin left several people with burn injuries July 26 but didn’t cause any fatalities.
Videos posted on social media showed plumes of black smoke coming from a boat on fire in Prescott, near the Miss-Croix Yacht Harbor. Prescott borders Minnesota, right where the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers meet.
Police are unsure what caused the explosion or how many people were on board, according to Twin Cities-area television stations. Witnesses told local media they saw people being ejected or jumping off the boat, and some were taken to the hospital.
A nearby marina owner, Colton Anderson, used his boat to push the fiery boat away from the docks and prevent more damage, CBS Minnesota reported.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has asked the DNR and the Prescott Police Department for updates, but didn’t get immediate responses.
