Brockport police are investigating after the body of a man was found in the canalside village over the weekend.
Officers were called to the 200 block of State Street around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 for the report that a body was found in an overgrown thicket, said Brockport Police Chief Paul Wheat. Responding officers found what appeared to be the body of a deceased man whose remains were at the site “for several days if not longer,” Wheat said.
The initial investigation “did not show any signs of criminality” in connection with the death, Wheat said. “There is no threat to our community.”

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted at the scene. The ME’s Office is working to identify the man and determine his cause of death, Wheat said.
The area is located south of the Erie Canal in an area that within the village’s commercial zone.
Officers continue to investigate. No further details were released.
