A new Boot Barn is moving into town and will open in the former Designer Shoe Warehouse across from Mall St. Matthews.
After the DSW closed at the end of May 2025, Boot Barn requested a permit to begin renovating the space at 5073 Shelbyville Road in early July, according to the Louisville Business Portal. Boot Barn is currently modifying the space in St. Matthews in hopes of opening in October 2025.
Boot Barn is the largest western and work wear retailer in the nation, according to Boot Barn Marketing Specialist Tanna Doyel. It sells everything from cowboy boots to apparel, serving customers across the nation.
“We proudly offer the broadest selection of cowboy boots, work boots, western wear, workwear, western-inspired fashion, and outdoor gear,” Doyel wrote in an email to The Courier Journal. “It is an honor to support the varying lifestyles of the people who make our country so great.”
A new Boot Barn will open on Shelbyville Road in October, selling western style clothes and work wear.

The Shelbyville Road location will be the third Boot Barn location in the Louisville area, with the other two stores located at 4511 Outer Loop and 1200 E Lewis and Clark Pkwy in Clarksville, Indiana. It will be the sixth location in Kentucky and will join Boot Barn’s network of over 475 stores in 49 states.
Founded in California in 1978, the chain has consistently grown across the country. In May 2025, John Hazen was named as the new permanent chief executive officer after serving as interim CEO since November 2024, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
“We created our Boot Barn store in Louisville, Kentucky to be much more than shopping — it is a personalized experience,” according to Boot Barn’s website. “We offer hat shaping and cleaning for all new and pre-owned cowboy hats. We provide in-person boot fitting.”

Doyel said Boot Barn is planning to host a grand opening celebration once the store opens this fall. She added that it will involve several events spanning an entire weekend, including live music and daily prize drawings.
