Apr. 15—An 8-year-old Odessa boy died Monday morning, one week after being shot in the head on West Monahans and now three men are facing a capital murder charge in connection with the incident.

Ector County jail records show Keemadrick Dreyveon Reellre Sauls, 22, was booked into the jail Friday on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct and injury to a child.

However, jail records now show Sauls, Anthony Gallegos Ramon Jr. and Santos Martin Roman are each facing capital murder of a person under 10.

According to an OPD report, dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call April 7 about a child who was shot in the 1000 block of West Monahans and was on his way to a hospital via a private vehicle.

In speaking with the boy’s mother at the hospital, police learned she was upstairs in her room when she heard gunshots. She said when she came downstairs she found her son suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She picked him up and drove him to the hospital in a neighbor’s vehicle.

According to the report, the boy’s mom said she’d gotten into a disturbance with Santos Roman earlier that morning and described him as having black hair with a yellow mohawk.

One witness reported seeing two men get into a light-colored Mercedes in the alley behind the victim’s apartment after hearing the gunshots and another witness saw a man with black hair and a yellow strip in the middle of his hair walking toward the alley, the report stated.

Surveillance video from a neighbor’s home showed a silver Mercedes driving past the home minutes before the shooting and another camera caught it entering the alley before the shooting, the report stated.

According to the report, officers began watching Roman’s home and saw a silver Mercedes stop in front of the home about two hours after the shooting. Inside the car was Roman with a freshly shaved head and Ramon.

Roman, who still had hair clippings on his shoulders, told officers he’d been at the home earlier in the morning and his wallet and cell phones had been stolen from him, the report stated. He also said his car had been vandalized.

Ramon admitted to being the driver of the Mercedes during the shooting and that he’d been at an apartment on Beal Parkway in Midland, the report stated.

According to the report, video surveillance showed the Mercedes turn onto Beal from Graceland less than an hour after the shooting and a search of Ramon’s phone showed a video of Roman with a freshly shaved head in an apartment on Beal Parkway.

Investigators learned Ramon was associated with Sauls and Sauls lives on Beal.

According to the report, an unnamed co-defendant identified Sauls as being one of the shooters in the incident, the report stated.

Roman and Ramon were booked into the Ector County jail April 8 on suspicion of injury to a child, deadly conduct and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to OPD, Midland law enforcement officers, the Texas Rangers, DPS and the U.S. Marshal’s Service assisted in the investigation.
