BOYNTON BEACH — Police shot and killed a machete-wielding man in a park Saturday morning following reports of a domestic dispute nearby, officials said.
Police said they were called to investigate the domestic dispute at about 10:45 a.m. today near the 600 block of Northeast 20th Lane. Officers arriving at the scene encountered a man involved in the dispute wielding a machete in Intracoastal Park next to the street, Boynton Beach Police said.
In their encounter with the man, police shot him, then performed lifesaving measures. Boynton Beach Fire Rescue workers took the man to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Police did not release any further information about the shooting, but said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
Northbound U.S. 1 from Oyer Park to Gateway Boulevard was closed during the incident.
