Brian Chapman resigns as Sault Ste. Marie city manager; Robin Troyer to step in

SAULT STE. MARIE — Brian Chapman has stepped down from his position as city manager.

Chapman’s resignation was announced on Friday, Sept. 12. Deputy City Manager Robin Troyer will be stepping in as acting city manager.

Mayor Don Gerrie confirmed that city employees were notified on Friday morning about Chapman’s resignation. No additional information about the reasons for his resignation or efforts to begin the search for a replacement has been released yet.

“On behalf of the city commission, I would like you to know that we have 100% confidence in Robin (Troyer) and in each of you,” Gerrie wrote in the notice to city staff.

Chapman became the Sault city manager in 2019. He has been part of several large city projects during his tenure, including the Carbide Dock reconstruction.

More information about the city manager position will become available at the Sault City Commission meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. The meeting will take place at Sault Ste. Marie City Hall and will be streamed online.
