A Bronx man who was dragged for half a mile down the street by a carjacker stealing his vehicle needed to have his leg amputated, police said Friday.
The 32-year-old victim left his car in front of a deli on Westchester Ave. in Pelham Bay while he stopped to quickly pick up some food, but ran back when he saw someone hop in the driver’s seat shortly before noon on Thursday, according to police.
The suspect drove more than half a mile with the victim clinging to the outside of the driver’s-side door before the suspect sideswiped a parked car near Wilkinson Ave. — possibly on purpose — knocking the victim onto the street, a police source said.
EMS transported the victim to Jacobi Hospital with head trauma and a fractured leg. The leg was later amputated and the victim remains in critical condition, according to police.
After the victim fell off, the carjacker kept driving south on Westchester Ave. The victim’s car, a 2017 Infiniti Q50, was later found abandoned along the Hutchinson River Parkway.
The suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, green shorts and white sneakers.
