A 27-year-old man listed as homeless faces charges after kicking a woman in Carbondale and spitting on two officers, police said.
When officers responded to a residence on Barrett Avenue on Friday around 11:40 p.m. for the report of a family domestic, Trella Williams told Patrolman Keith Rynearson that Jordan Coxson took her aunt’s cellphone and refused to give it back, pushing Williams to the ground and kicking her in the head when she attempted to retrieve it, according to a criminal complaint.
Officers noticed visible redness and swelling on Williams’ forehead, police said.
As Officer William Wolfe was leading Coxton out of the residence, he pulled away and forced himself to the ground, causing a minor injury to Wolfe’s left hand, according to the criminal complaint.
Coxson also acted disorderly while being transported to the Lackawanna County processing center and continued to be uncooperative when they arrived, throwing himself on the ground, police said. Additionally, he spit on Rynearson and Officer Brittany Mang inside the center, according to the criminal complaint.
Police charged Coxson with aggravated harassment by a prisoner, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, theft by unlawful taking and harassment.
As of Monday, Coxson remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 5 at 11 a.m.
