CARLETON — Daniel and Charlene McLaughlin of Carleton know some things about a successful marriage. They are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary June 7.

“The key to staying married for 50 years: Marry your best friend who wants the same things in life,” the couple said. “Also, remember your vows and remember family always comes first.”

The couple has three sons: Daniel (Virginia) McLaughlin III of South Rockwood, Michael (Tara) McLaughlin of Carleton and Thomas (Brianne) McLaughlin of South Rockwood. They also have six grandchildren; another grandchild is deceased.

The McLaughlins are retired auto workers. He worked for Chrysler. She worked for Ford Motor Co.

“I don’t think they ever had problems on what type (to buy). Although we didn’t purchase many new vehicles,” son Michael said.

In their retirement, the McLaughins are enjoying their hobbies. Daniel McLaughlin is an avid hunter and fisherman. Charlene McLaughlin is a fan of the Detroit Tigers. They both enjoy spending time with their grandchildren.
