Over $14 million in alleged methamphetamine concealed within a shipment manifested as fresh bell pepper and cucumbers was seized in Pharr, Texas.
According to the press release, officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations seized the drugs at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility.
On April 11, CBP officers at the cargo facility encountered a tractor-trailer entering from Mexico and subsequently directed the vehicle for a more thorough inspection.
According to the release, following an inspection of the vehicle — using nonintrusive inspection tools and a canine unit — officers uncovered 300 packages of suspected methamphetamine, hidden within the trailer, weighing a total of 1,635.56 pounds.
Officers confiscated the narcotics along with the vehicle, while special agents from Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal inquiry.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez said his team was able to avert further criminal activity with the drug bust.
“Our CBP officers continue to use all tools and resources to safeguard our borders by preventing these harmful narcotics from reaching America’s streets,” Rodriguez said.
