PLATTSBURGH — Chazz Johnson, the man who was arrested and charged following a fatal shooting on Cornelia Street in the City of Plattsburgh last fall, pleaded guilty in Clinton County Court Monday.

“Once again, in a turn of unexpected events, Chazz Johnson appeared in County Court this morning with his attorney Tucker Stancliff, entered a plea to the indictment, charging him with intentionally causing the death of Markus Dixon,” District Attorney Andrew Wylie said by email Monday.

Wylie said sentencing will be left to Judge Keith Bruno and is scheduled in County Court for July 9.

Johnson, 24, of Plattsburgh, was arrested after Dixon, 31, also of Plattsburgh, was found shot three times in the chest area near 137 Cornelia St. around 2:23 a.m. Sept. 3, 2024.

Dixon was transported to the University of Vermont Healthcare Network at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Erica Colon, 21, of Plattsburgh was also arrested following Dixon’s death. Wylie said in September 2024 after the arrests, that Colon was involved in an “altercation” with Dixon downtown near Pizza Bono before the shooting took place.

Wylie said witnesses indicated that Colon was struck by Dixon, who then left the area to walk back to his residence.

Wylie said, after that incident, Colon called Johnson, her boyfriend, who came to pick her up and they located Dixon, who was then shot and killed.

Colon is expected to be in court on her charges on Friday, Wylie said.
