Dr. Walter Lambert, who has served the Child Protection Center as Sarasota’s medical director since 2014, was recently honored with the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award at its annual Blue Ties & Butterflies Gala.
Lambert’s career has been dedicated to protecting children, advancing medical knowledge, and leading transformational change within Florida’s child welfare system, serving as Child Protection Team Medical Director and Associate Statewide Medical Director.
“Dr. Lambert has been a cornerstone of our field,” CPC executive director Douglas Staley said. “He’s trained countless doctors, social workers, and legal professionals, while also lending his time to case consultations and statewide quality assurance reviews. His leadership has improved outcomes for thousands of children and families.”
Known for always being available to support colleagues no matter the hour, Lambert – board certified in pediatrics and child abuse pediatrics – has traveled the state to ensure best practices, mentor future generations of child advocates, and help children and families find safety. His background in social work further amplified his ability to assess complex abuse cases with insight and empathy. As he nears retirement, Staley said Lambert’s legacy will continue to help survivors and shape child protection in Florida for years to come.
The Child Protection Center’s mission is the prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse. The CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties for 45 years and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
