A Cincinnati man faces years in prison after scamming over four dozen online romantic partners out of upwards of $2 million, according to court records.
Richard Agyemang pleaded guilty Sept. 17 to creating false female profiles on dating websites and convincing other users to send him money, according to documents filed by U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.
He faces up to 41 months in prison. His catfishing began in June 2020.

While pretending to be a woman named Emily, Agyemang received just under $350,000 from a partner in 2022 over a series of request. The partner believed the money would be used, in part, for experimental medication for Emily’s mother in London, court records indicate.
In 2023, Agyemang received over $400,000 from another partner while pretending to be a woman named Kathy, who said she needed money to release an inheritence of diamonds from her dead father.
As of Sept. 18, a sentencing hearing for Agyemang had not been scheduled.
