Taunton wants blighted property for public parking. Owner of key access point not happy
Taunton is proposing to acquire a blighted vacant lot off Spring Street to turn into a public parking lot downtown.
The mayor’s office and Office of Economic and Community Development asked the City Council at a July 1 meeting to approve beginning the process of acquiring the property at 4 Spring Lane through eminent domain.
However, the lot lacks direct access from Weir Street, so the city wants secondary access from Weir Street through an existing access point in the parking lot of The Lighting Gallery at 82 Weir St.

Federal grants for Taunton schools frozen by Trump administration
The Trump administration has withheld $108 million dollars in federal education funding allocated to Massachusetts schools, impacting districts including the Taunton Public Schools.
Three federal grants totaling $600,000 designated for Taunton Public Schools have been withheld.
