The public will have a chance to hear plans for potential Clark Road (State Road 72) improvements from the Florida Department of Transportation this week.

The agency will host a public hearing about potential improvements to Clark Road east of Interstate 75 on June 26. The project, still subject to change, may include widening part of the road to four lanes.

The meeting will be held at Covenant Mennonite Fellowship, 5420 Ashton Road, and begin with a 5 p.m. open house before the 6 p.m. hearing. Online access to the meeting is available at fdot.cc/SR72_Public_Hearing_Registration.

The project will encompass the 3.4-mile stretch from Clark Road’s I-75 exit, 205, to Lorraine Road. Still in the early stages, planning for the project contemplates potential improvements including additional traffic lights, roundabouts and more lanes.

Potential improvements to Clark Road could include additional roundabouts, a traffic signal and widening the road to four lanes. The project is still in its early stages and the state Department of Transportation hasn't announced a budget or a timeline.

The project is in the development and environmental study stage, meaning FDOT is still collecting data and preparing reports on the Clark Road area. It will have to advance through the design, right of way acquisition and construction stages before completion.

The new plans come just after the Clark Road diverging diamond interchange opened last year. FDOT hasn’t announced a budget or timeline for the future Clark Road improvements, though the design stage is set for the 2026 budget year.

Residents can submit questions or feedback on the project prior to or during the June 26 meeting, where representatives from FDOT will be on hand.
