HONOLULU (KHON2) — The U.S. Coast Guard announced that they have suspended their search for a missing fisherman who was last seen near South Point off Hawaiʻi Island.
According to authorities, Earl “Oa” Hind, 42, was last seen on his fishing boat on April 9, with the Coast Guard, DLNR and Big Island fire searching for him as of April 11. As of 3:30 p.m. on April 15, the search was officially suspended.

The Coast Guard says that along with partner agencies, crews searched a total of 200,048 square nautical miles for over a combined 242 hours.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that despite widespread efforts, our search for Mr. Hind is now suspended,” said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Raphael Sadowitz. “We appreciate the tireless work of our partners and the local community and extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Hind’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
