Colorado State Patrol seeks help after road rage shooting on Interstate 25 near Berthoud

Shots were fired on Interstate 25 near Berthoud, nearly hitting the driver, during a late-night incident the Colorado State Patrol attributed to road rage.

The suspect has not yet been located, and the state patrol is asking for the public’s help locating the vehicle and its driver.

The shooting occurred around 1:13 a.m. April 21 on I-25 near Colorado Highway 56, which is the Berthoud exit, according to a news release from the state patrol.

The driver of a maroon Kia Sorento was traveling northbound and straddling two lanes, the state patrol said. The driver of a Subaru Legacy approached from behind and honked their horn. The driver of the Kia moved into the left lane and the Subaru driver passed in the right lane.

The driver of the Kia then closely followed behind the Subaru and shined a laser light at its driver, according to the news release. The Subaru exited off the highway, and the Kia followed, firing multiple rounds from a firearm.

One round went through the glass of the Subaru’s back window and hit the driver’s seat. The driver was not injured.

The Kia driver then fled the scene, the state patrol says.

The Kia Sorento was listed as being stolen out of Denver, according to the news release. It had a temporary tag of 7282363.

The Colorado State Patrol asks anyone who sees the vehicle to call 911 or dispatch at 303-239-4501. They advise not to engage with the driver or any others in the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the incident who has not already spoken with investigators is asked to call the dispatch line above and reference case number IS-250391.
