The oath of office recently was administered to two new Ashland Police Division officers.
Mayor Matt Miller administered the oath to Shane Cook and Brian Evans.
Cook, 26, of Perrysville, is an Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center graduate and a United States MarineCorps veteran. He completed the Police Academy at North Central State College in January, according to a news release for Police Chief David A. Lay.
Before enrolling in the academy, Cook worked for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the United States Postal Service.

The Ashland Police Division is his first appointment as a full-time peace officer.
Over the next four months Cook will work with field training officers to learn organizational procedures and become familiar with operations, according to the release.
Cook expressed his eagerness to begin his new role with the City of Ashland, stating, “I grew up in Perrysvilleand spent a lot of time in Ashland. Being able to protect this community makes all the difference.”
Evans, 52, of Mansfield, retired from the Ashland Police Division in 2021 after serving 24 years. He returnsas the newest part-time police officer.
Due to his prior experience, Evans will undergo a shorter training period. After completing training,his position will help supplement staffing levels in the Patrol Bureau, focusing on traffic-related issues.
