Corinth man sentenced to 10 years for sexual battery

CORINTH – An Alcorn County man will spend the next 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a young girl two years ago.

Alexander Jordan Delgado, 29, of Meadowbrook Road, Corinth, was indicted in April 2023, charged with molestation and two counts of sexual battery of a 10-year-old girl. Prosecutors said Delgado, who was 26 at the time, was in a position of trust over the victim because of his relationship with the victim’s family.

Delgado entered an open plea of guilty to one count of sexual battery in September 2024. Sentencing was deferred until this week, and he was allowed to remain free on bond until sentencing this week.

Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims sentenced Delgado to 30 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections but suspended 20 years. Delgado will not be eligible for parole or early release and must serve the remaining 10 years day for day. Following his release, he will also have to serve five years of post-release supervision. If he gets in trouble during that time, he could be ordered to serve any or all of the 20 suspended years.

Delgado will have to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and can never again have contact with the victim.

The molestation charge and the other sexual battery charge were retired following Delgado’s sentencing.
