Cornwall man accused of over 20 years of child sexual abuse crimes in Rockland and Orange

Must read

Police are seeking more potential sexual abuse victims, including from Clarkstown, after a Cornwall man was arrested Wednesday, July 2, for alleged sexual abuse against children in both Rockland and Orange counties for over 20 years.

New York State Police said James Valentine, 57, of Cornwall, was identified as the perpetrator of sexual abuse of two 15-year-old boys in Valentine’s home after a report was filed June 4.

Following an investigation with the FBI New York, Town of Clarkstown police and both Rockland County and Orange County District Attorney’s offices, police say they believe that Valentine had been engaging in inappropriate contact with young boys for over 20 years in the town of Clarkstown in Rockland County.

Valentine was arrested on July 2 and was charged with first-degree attempted criminal sexual act and second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, both felonies.

He was arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Court and was remanded to Rockland County Jail. He is expected to reappear in Town of Clarkstown Court Monday, July 7.

New York State Police say they are asking that parents speak with their children and asking for any other victims or witnesses to contact State Police detectives at 845-344-5300 if they have more information about Valentine or his victims, both in and out of New York State.
