Martha Phillips, 71, was arrested by Arkansas State Police in June on two counts of manslaughter and one count of furnishing a vehicle to a minor without a driver’s license. She pleaded not guilty during her arraignment in July.

Martha Phillips was originally scheduled for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 12, with a jury trial set to begin Sept. 26. Those dates have now been pushed back.

The pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 10, and the trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 30 at the Logan County Courthouse in Paris.

Phillips’ 16-year-old grandson, Ian Phillips, also faces two counts of manslaughter. Investigators say Martha Phillips allowed him to drive a Chevrolet Camaro without a license on May 30, during which he allegedly reached speeds of 150 miles per hour before colliding with another vehicle.

The crash killed Mackenzie Arthur, 20, and her sister, Maddie Arthur, 17, both of Scranton. No other injuries were reported.

Martha Phillips is free on a $250,000 bond.
