Must read

MANALAPAN Rescue teams pulled a body from a vehicle that was submerged in a drainage basin Saturday, police said.

Police received a report about 1:45 p.m. Saturday of vehicle submerged in the retention basis off Comtois Road, said Deputy Police Chief Michael Hoppock.

When officers responded, they could see the vehicle’s open trunk above the water line, with the front of the vehicle submerged, Hoppock said.

Water rescue teams were dispatched and located a body inside the vehicle, he said.

Police have no witnesses to the vehicle entering the water, Hoppock said.

A positive identification of the deceased is pending, the deputy chief said. The incident is under investigation.

In addition to Manalapan police and firefighters, those responding included the Englishtown, Millstone and Hightstown fire departments, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Maritime Emergency Response Team and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.
