A man was arrested on DUI and other charges after he was allegedly driving the wrong way on Route 72 in Plainville on Sunday.
Troopers received reports of a driver going east on the westbound side of the highway just after 2:20 a.m. and responded to the area of Exit 4 to find a vehicle in the right shoulder facing the wrong way, according to Connecticut State Police.
The driver was identified as 33-year-old Freddie Diaz-Maldonado of Hartford, state police said. As he spoke to troopers, he allegedly showed “clear signs” of impairment, according to state police.
Diaz-Maldonado was taken into custody after he failed field sobriety testing, state police said. He faces charges of reckless driving, operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving the wrong way on a divided highway and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Diaz-Maldonado was later released on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on July 30.
