A Wallingford man died following a crash on Route 82 in East Haddam on Saturday night, according to Connecticut State Police.

Patrick Lanahan, 29, was driving alone in a 2005 Nissan Roadster at about 7:19 p.m. Police said he “he failed to navigate a left-hand curve on the roadway” and “traveled off the right side of the roadway into the grassy shoulder and glanced off a utility pole.”

Police said Lanahan’s car then re-entered the roadway out of control and struck a 2021 Honda CR-V EX that was traveling eastbound on Route 82 head-on.

The 2021 Honda CR-V EX, which had three occupants ages 11, 16 and 52, spun off the right shoulder of the eastbound lane. Lanahan’s car flipped over on its roof in the middle of the highway. Lanahan was pounced dead on the scene, according to Connecticut State Police.

The occupants of the Honda were transported to Backus Hospital with minor injuries.
