A Stratford man was arrested and faces charges after an attempted motor vehicle stop in Waterbury turned into a foot pursuit, according to a Waterbury Police Department social media post.
Anderson Vargas, 26, who police said was known to have an active arrest warrant in Watertown for a charge of second-degree reckless endangerment, engaging police in pursuit and several other charges, was spotted Tuesday as Waterbury Police Department’s Gang Task Force, Auto Theft Task Force, Crime Prevention Unit and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force were patrolling in the area of Angel Drive in Waterbury, according to Waterbury police.
According to the post from the Waterbury Police Department said following the attempted motor vehicle stop, Vargas allegedly fled on foot but was “quickly apprehended without incident.”
Law enforcement seized a firearm, a Glock Austria Model 19 Gen 5, six pounds of marijuana and $920 in cash and Vargas is charged with insufficient insurance, operating a drug factory, interfering with an officer, misuse of registration plates, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, Illegal sale or transfer of pistols or revolver, illegal possession of high-capacity magazines and criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition.
According to police, Vargas is a convicted felon for previous weapons charges and is prohibited from possessing any firearms and/or ammunition and is the custody the Connecticut Department of Correction.
