A Daytona Beach man was arrested for pulling out a gun inside a restaurant and pointing it at four employees during an argument over a bill a month ago, Ormond Beach police said.

Anthony Rodriguez, 25, turned himself in to police on Thursday, June 5, and was locked up on four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was out of the Volusia County Branch Jail on $30,000 bail, records showed on Monday, June 9.

According to Ormond Beach police, Rodriguez and three others dined at the Fresh Guacamole Tequila & Bar Mexican Grill on 1930 West Granada Blvd. on May 6 and were not happy with the bill when it came time to pay.

An argument ensued with the staff of the restaurant. To de-escalate the situation, an employee of the eatery told the group they could leave without paying the bill, an arrest report states.

During the argument, a woman in the group started banging on the plexiglass that protected the cashier. She then got past the plexiglass and pushed toward four employees, including the 16-year-old son of one of the employees, police said.

The woman started yelling with her face close to the face of one of the employee’s and the 16-year-old stepped in to defend his father, police said.

It was during that moment that Rodriguez is seen in surveillance video reaching into a crossbody bag and pulling out a silver handgun. Rodgriguez pointed the gun at the four people, including the 16-year-old, police said.

The woman then pushes Rodriguez out of the restaurant, and they leave, police.

During their month-long investigation, police said they were able to verify through photo lineups and face recognition technology from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office that Rodriguez was the one seen pulling the gun on the restaurant’s employees, the arrest report noted.
