Dearborn police chief’s nephew killed in Florida motorcycle crash: ‘We are heartbroken’

Must read

Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin’s nephew was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Florida while riding his motorcycle.

“We are heartbroken by the sudden loss of my nephew Ameer, who passed away in a motorcycle accident in Florida at just 30 years old,” Shahin wrote in a Facebook post Thursday, Sept. 11.

Shahin’s nephew, Ameer Harcourt Ramouni, was riding his motorcycle on Florida’s turnpike in Orange County around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, when a tow truck changed lanes into his path, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Ramouni lost control and veered into another lane, where two vehicles struck him after being unable to stop. A third vehicle hit debris from the crash.

Ramouni was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. No other drivers were injured.

Ramouni moved from metro Detroit to Longwood, Florida, two years ago, where he was “finishing up flight school,” Shahin told the Free Press. He had plans to return to Michigan once he obtained his pilot’s license.

“He was just the most wonderful young man,” the police chief said. “Beautiful, kind, and brilliant, he will be deeply missed.”

The crash remains under investigation.

Funeral prayers and burial are scheduled for noon Friday, Sept. 12, at the American Moslem Society in Dearborn. Visitation will be held at the Islamic Center of Detroit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.
