Derry man indicted for distributing child porn

CONCORD — A Derry man was indicted this week for distributing and possessing child sexual abuse materials, according to the U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire.

Joseph Baran, 55, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint. He appeared in federal court on Aug. 21.

According to court documents, Baran was involved in the collection and distribution of child sexual abuse materials as part of a technically sophisticated, anonymous, online group.

The investigation was led by FBI’s Child Exploitation Operational Unit, with assistance from the FBI’s Boston Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Vicinanzo is prosecuting the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
